BEING BLACK

Performed & Written by Kayla Robinson

Produced by Giovanna Echivarre-Morelli

HIT PLAY. CLOSE YOUR EYES. LISTEN.

Words from the Artists:

Kayla's words come from the heart, detailing her self awareness and her experience in the world. In producing this work with her, I am struck by the way the body holds tight our memories: unconscious, but powerful.

"It's good days, it's bad days, it's up, it's down."

This spoken word is a journey and this is only the first iteration. We are continuing to build and collaborate. Some things don't have to be perfect, they are bursting with power needing to be shared. As we progress in this time and space, we hope to produce more versions of these words, transforming them into lyrics and lasting melodies. In this raw form, we share our art.

THIS WORK DIRECTLY SUPPORTS:

Loveland Foundation was established in 2018 by Rachel Cargle as a continuation to her widely successful birthday fundraiser "Therapy for Black Women and Girls." The donations go towards bringing opportunities and healing to communities of color through fellowships, residency programs, listening tours, and more.

TGI Justice Project is a group of transgender, gender variant and intersex people - inside and outside of prisons, jails and detention centers - creating a united family in the struggle for survival and freedom. Donations go towards leadership development, their re-entry program, and legal support for transgender, gender variant and intersex people.
