HIT PLAY. CLOSE YOUR EYES.
Words from the Artist
The verses of this song describe all-too-real events of this past year. I workshopped this song with Dar Williams at “Writing A Song That Matters” June 2022, and she challenged me to place some kind of call to action in the chorus. I hope people do find the heart to face the difficult truth about violence perpetrated against women and children around the world, and hope they find inspiration to act, in whatever way they can.
Inspired by true events in Ukraine and the United States. TRIGGER WARNING FOR VIOLENT IMAGERY
THIS WORK DIRECTLY SUPPORTS:
Everytown is a growing movement of over 10 million mayors, moms, teachers, survivors, gun owners, students, and everyday American citizens fighting to make communities safer from gun violence. From the legislative level to local neighborhoods, they are actively working to demand accountability from gun lobbying officials, implement smarter & safer gun policies, and advocate for safety reforms across the nation at the ballot box, in state legislatures, and in corporate America. They use evidence-based solutions to tackle the issues of domestic violence, guns in schools, and mass shootings, while educating the population on current and accurate statistics.
3 ACTIONABLE STEPS YOU CAN TAKE
As stated in the song, reflect on & learn the names of people who have died in gun violence and war - speak their names out loud, think about their lives, and what it would mean if someone close to you was the victim.
Learn about the different issues of how gun violence impacts communities in America and sign the pledge to Take Action To End Gun Violence
Write a message to Congress or volunteer with one of the chapters of Moms Demand Action to connect, learn about, and join the movement to end gun violence
